Being a jeweller came before being an engineer in the aerospace industry and yet now they are so intrinsically linked that it’s impossible to separate them. There are obvious parallels between my employment and my creative practice and in other instances they are polar opposites. I constantly strive for precision in my making skills and yet I shun the mass manufacturing technologies available to me in favour of producing carefully considered one off jewellery pieces using traditional silversmithing techniques. I select and develop geometric patterns for my jewellery and arrange them both symmetrically and asymmetrically but always logically. I appreciate the perfect repetition which can be achieved using a machine and yet I favour the aesthetic qualities of a hand pierced line. My intention is not to become a production line but to recognise and celebrate the nature of being a human being and a maker.
